This model is based on a description in Constructor Quarterly 66, which in turn was based on a tin-plate toy from the early 20th century. The monkey's feet are set to the numbers along the bottom, and his hands then point to the multiple of those two numbers.
The model was easy to build, and I made only small alterations from the model description (for example using locknuts at the joints rather than axle parts - this does not introduce any play into the joints, and the model still works properly).
