Tower crane

Constructed from Model Plan MP61, which is available from a number of online sellers. It is an imposing (although not too large!) model which requires a large number of braced girders. Many of mine were repainted. It needs a significant counterweight in the boom.

Some problems with the model include:

• flimsy superstructure of narrow girders (see picture below)
• the drive to rotate the jib is passed via axles from the base of the tower to the thrust bearing
• power is not passed via wiper arms, but via wires, which limit the extent to which the jib can rotate

The model plan has subsequently been update as MP192 and these problems appear to have been fixed.
